Current tasks
Currently, I am doing my PhD in Kristian Spilling´s project C_FLUX_II, which focusses on the effect of changes in phytoplankton community composition during the spring bloom on biogeochemical cycles in the Baltic Sea.
Background
In 2009 I completed my BSc degree in Applied Biology at the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (Germany). In 2011 I was awarded the degree of MSc in Marine Biology from the University of Rostock (Germany). After that I did an internship in Marine Virus Ecology at the Royal Netherlands Institute of Sea Research (NIOZ) on the island Texel (The Netherlands) for 6 months. Since August 2013 I am doing my PhD at SYKE Merikeskus in the unit “Marine Functional Biodiversity and Ecosystem Modelling”.
Research topics
Phytoplankton community composition during the Baltic spring bloom
Phytoplankton identification and enumeration by traditional and modern methods (Microscopy & qPCR)
Quantification of heterotrophic bacteria and phytoplankton by Flow Cytometry
Interactions between phytoplankton and heterotrophic bacteria
Data validation
Quality control
Statistical analyses
Method optimization
