The project includes 'Operation, development and maintenance of a European Marine Observation and Data Network’ for creating and maintaining an operational service providing free and open access to data products based on observations of the sea and access to the observations on which these data products were built. The service is part of the further development of the European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet), an initiative of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) as part of its Marine Knowledge 2020 strategy.
