The financing for the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) comes from the state budget and from external sources. In 2023, Syke’s operating financing came to approximately 74.0 million euros:

  • Direct budget allocations 26.7 M EUR (36%)
  • External financing 47.2 M EUR (64%)

Main competitive research funding instruments 

The largest sources of external financing have been, for example, the EU, Academy of Finland and Strategic Research Council (SRC).
