Finnish partners

There are two Finnish partners in the Water meet people project. Finnish Environment Institute is the lead partner of the project and the other Finnish partner is Department of Environment and Natural resources in the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Southeast Finland.

Finnish Environment Institute

The Finnish Environment Institute (also known as SYKE, after the Institute's Finnish acronym) is both a research institute, and a centre for environmental expertise. SYKE forms part of Finland's national environmental administration, and mainly operates under the auspices of the Ministry of the Environment. SYKE e.g. evaluates the governance, implementation and effectiveness of environmental policy and supports the development and implementation of policy instruments, building on assessments of environmental, economic and social impacts as well as analyses of institutional evolution, policy formulation and multi-level governance.

Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Southeast Finland (ELY-centre)

Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Southeast Finland (KASELY) is a govermental organisation ensuring healthy environment, sustainable use of natural resources in South-East Finland. Department of Environment and Natural resources (as a partner in this project), is dealing with issues related to environmental protection, monitoring the state of the environment, construction and land use planning, nature conservation, the management of cultural landscapes, awareness of environmental issues, and the management and use of water resources, in their respective regions. The operation area includes the regions of South-Karelia and Kymenlaakso.

Russian partners

There are three Russian partners in the Water meet people project: Ecocentrum Ltd, Northwest Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. (NorthWest AHEM) and Institute of Limnology, Russia Academy of Sciences.

Ecocentrum Ltd

Ecocentrum was established in 2013 as a enterprise, providing education and consulting services on environmental solutions. Ecocentrum develops projects on environmental education, river basin management, river investigation, energy saving and energy efficiency in the housing sector (schools, residential houses), other climate friendly solutions for cities. Ecocentrum has an expertice on environmental education, protection of water ecosystems, climate and energy, complex eco-management of in the municipal and residential buildings.

Northwest Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. (NorthWest AHEM)

Federal State Budgetary Institution “Northwest Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring” (FSBI “NW AHEM”) is a division of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. FSBI “NW AHEM” monitors environmental pollution in the Leningrad, Pskov, Novgorod and Kaliningrad regions and the Republic of Karelia.

   

   

 

   

Institute of Limnology, Russia Academy of Sciences

Institute of Limnology, Russia Academy of Sciences (ILRAS) is the leading scientific institute in Russia in the field of limnology. The Institute develops theoretical and practical basis of limnology, methods of integrated study of structural and functional characteristics of lake ecosystems and possibilities for using lakes for water supply, fishery and recreation. Institute of Limnology studies problems of monitoring and managing lakes and rational use of their natural resources.

The Institute develops theoretical and applied aspects for protection lake ecosystems and their catchments and makes forecast for their future changes under anthropogenic and climate impacts.
