The UN sustainable development Agenda 2030 came into effect in 2016. At the heart of the Agenda 2030 are the 17 commonly agreed goals and 169 more detailed sub-goals. The aim of the Avain2030 project is to outline overall picture of the current situation, challenges and opportunities of Finland in regard of implementation of Agenda2030. In addition, based on international comparison and domestic experiences the project will identify the key development needs of the follow-up indicators of Agenda2030.
The methodological special aim of the project is to test the use of infographics to enhance the sustainable development communication and interaction. Key results are visualised and communicated by the means of infographics. The project aims to develop infographics that are capable of opening up the central contents and purposes of the implementation of Agenda 2030 in a fresh, interesting and – in some cases – surprising ways. At the same time, the project tests the cost-effectiveness and assesses the impacts of infographics especially in relation to traditional indicator-based sustainable development communication.
The project will produce evidence-based proposals for the themes, targets and actions that need special attention in the context of Finland. The key criteria for identifying such focus areas include the position of Finland in relation to other nations. The project will assess a) the focus areas where Finland is lagging behind, b) the subject areas that are particularly critical for Finland and c) focus areas where Finland can be considered as a forerunner. The project aims also to identify how the good Finnish practices could be made available for other countries and actors.
The project is implemented by the Finnish Environment Institute and DEMOS Helsinki in collaboration with key actors of sustainable development. The project is active during the April-June 2016.
