Establishment of an information system and a database for water management field according to the requirements of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), Romania

Project Description

The project established an information system and a coherent database for water management field according to the requirements of Water Framework Directive. The project included the following activities:

  • Developing and improving the operation of the Water Management National Database by analysing the existing information flow and proposing a new information flow;
  • Providing organisational structure to co-ordinate the global information produced at international, national, local or basin levels by drawing up recommendations for the personnel qualifications required for the operation and maintenance of the database;
  • Setting up a program for public information and participation to the decision making process by designing public data access policy and developing access methodologies to data contained within the national database;
  • Setting up a system for data exchange between the specialised units and data users.

Services provided by SYKE

  • Development and provision of training programmes on implementation of WFD;
  • Development of procedures and models for monitoring and assessment systems.
