The overall objective (intended long-term impact) of the Project is to increase the capacity of Tajik authorities to provide reliable environmental information of surface water quality both for the citizens and authorities according to international standards. This project is a step towards the realization of the citizens’ rights to reliable environmental information. The authorities need reliable data in order to be able fulfil their obligations and to be able to make informed decisions regarding the protection of waters, as well as to report internationally.

The project purpose (immediate objective) is that the two laboratories are able to carry out water quality monitoring in line with international standards for monitoring systems.

The joint ICI seminar “Climate Change and the environment – cooperation between Tajikistan and Finland” was organized together with the Finnish Meteorological Institute and the Geological Survey of Finland and the respective local partners of each institute on the 10th of April in Dushanbe (Fig. 2). All these Finnish institutions are running development projects with corresponding institutions in Tajikistan.
