SYKE has the responsibility to manage and update a database of threatened species’ occurrences in Finland. SYKE and Forestry Development Centre Tapio have created an operations model for transferring data on threatened forest species to forest managers and landowners. This way forest companies and landowners can plan forestry operations in commercial forests in a biodiversity-friendly way. The model has been in use since 2011.

At SYKE, people involved in this work include Heidi Kaipiainen-Väre and Kimmo Syrjänen.
